This is the image's first known upload. Soon after the photograph was uploaded, memes based on it started to appear. One of the first picture macros using the horse, which circulated mostly on Tumblr beginning in December 2015, has the statement "I'm not like other females" at the bottom of the image (shown below, right).

Despite its modest origins, meme culture has developed and now exists almost entirely on Twitter and TikTok, with the rare meme or two making its way into Instagram for millennials seeking to fit in. And other memes are so ludicrous and unusual that whole accounts are devoted to nostalgic early 2010s memes or specialized meme subcultures. This evolution of internet memeing is the modern-day counterpart of satire, and although it may not look like that of millennials, Gen X, or baby boomers, it is just as legitimate and generational. Overall, one of the most interesting and social elements of being a member of Generation Z is meme culture. Despite the fact that we are dealing with climate change, sexual and social violence, racial separation, and bleak economic and political landscapes, we may find solace in memes. Memes put us at ease with people around us and serve as excellent icebreakers.
