Set your camera's ISO to a low setting, between 100 and 125. This reduces the camera's sensitivity to light, which darkens the backdrop of your shot and removes undesirable texture. To compensate for these fluctuations, increase or decrease your shutter speed. Examine how a quick shutter interacts with your aperture. Slow down the shutter speed and use a tripod for stability if you underexpose the photograph.
Portrait composition
This is a portrait setup with solely natural light striking the subject. It's not as visible in this compressed jpeg as it is in the original RAW file, but the backdrop is pretty murky, approaching black but not quite there. The creases in the material are visible in the original.
