Yusuke's perspective shifts as he visits his mother's wake, where individuals he knows express their condolences. His mother, Atsuko, is heartbroken, bordering on catatonic, over the loss of her son. His classmate, Keiko Yukimura, tears violently, chanting Yusuke's name. Kuwabara comes, enraged that Yusuke died before they could complete their combat. Mr. Takenaka, another teacher, chastises two of Yusuke's instructors for disparaging him at the wake. He pays his respects to Atsuko and laments at Yusuke's death; only then does Atsuko respond, bursting in tears as Yusuke is mentioned. Finally, the kid Yusuke rescued and his mother appear, and when the youngster begs if he may play with Yusuke again, his mother sobs and embraces him. He chooses to return, realizing that he meant more to people than they let on.
Yu Yu Hakusho is a fantastic anime. Sure, it's been compared to the Dragon Ball series, but the plot is unique and full of comedy, drama, and romance. The array of characters is wide and engaging, the animation is flowing and expressive, and... I can't say enough good things about it...fantastic! it's Yusuke Urameshi is your standard adolescent delinquent, skipping class, getting into fistfights, and generally being nasty. But everything changes when he risks his life to stop a little kid from being struck by a vehicle. Botan, the cheery "Grim Wreaper," greets him in floating spirit form. She leads him to visit Lord Koenma, who seems to be a youngster but is really almost 600 years old. From there, he is appointed as a spirit investigator, one tasked with protecting all three realms from evil. Before he realizes it, he's been sucked into the life of a ghost detective...and things only get better and more exciting from there.
